Calendar highlights 30-plus years of world-class travel photography

We recently received the 2008 Spirit of Place Calendar from Bob Krist and promptly fell in love with the cover shot seen here. With a dozen more dramatic images inside, Bob's newest calendar marks his 31st year as a leading travel photographer and author; as well as his second "Travel Photographer of the Year" award in 2007 -- he first won the award in 1994.

Last year Bob, and his wife Peggy, established the Jonathan D. Krist Foundation to honor the memory and charitable works of their youngest son who was killed in a car accident in May 2006. The calendar describes some of their foundation's activities during the past year. Copies of the 2008 Spirit of Place Calendar are available for $20 (includes shipping) to those wishing to contribute to the foundation. All proceeds benefit the foundation's programs. Simply contact Peggy Krist or call 215-862-4828 for details.

This cover shot of the Capella di Vitalleta was made early one morning during one of Bob's photo workshops in Tuscany in Italy. Bob used a Singh-Ray Gold-N-Blue Polarizer to achieve the subtle overall glow then refined the image a bit in Photoshop. Several other images inside the calendar were made with the help of his various Singh-Ray filters.
